On the 27th September 2019 MIEMA organised a training seminar in the framework of the STEPPING project, on the topic of energy retrofit of public buildings and Energy Performance Contracts (EPC) as an alternative and innovative financing opportunity.
The seminar was held at the Pembroke Local Council and saw the participation of representatives of Local Councils in Malta and Gozo, representation of the Regions and other interested parties. With the aim to link the themes of Stepping with other ‘green’ funding opportunities for the Local Councils, the training was merged with the National Seminar of the ‘Local4Green’ project, an Interreg MED project also managed by MIEMA.
Among the speakers, Dr Dean Hili, Mayor (Pembroke Local Council), Mr Noel Formosa, Mayor of San Lawrenz – Gozo, Erika Massa, Marco Graziani and Diane Cassar of MIEMA, Architect Stephen Micallef of the Gozo Regional Committee. Architect Erika Massa, project manager of STEPPING delivered the training on the EPC contracts and presented the results of the pilot study for the energy renovation of three schools in Malta that was done in collaboration of MEDE and FTS.

In conclusion of the session there was a discussion based on the feedback of the policy engagement activity and the barriers and opportunities for the EPC adoption by the Local Government and Institutions. Several Flyers were distributed together with a printed Booklet with the main training contents about EPC. A good number of representatives from the Local Councils attended the training session and the overall feedback was very positive.
