About Mendatica

Mendatica is a small village of 229 inhabitants, located in the upper Arroscia Valley, in the province of Imperia. Mendatica is famous for the abundance of its waters, being crossed by numerous streams and the waterfalls of Mount Arroscia, the highest of Liguria (2,152 meters). The area offers the possibility to practice outdoor sports, great trails and a refuge for hiking, an Adventure Park and skiing facilities nearby. Many places of historical and cultural value to visit.

The municipality has been pursuing for years a complete energy independence by using renewable sources and in 2003 realized a hydroelectric plant on the nearby Arroscia river, allowing substantial economic benefits and an energy production of approximately 500,000 kWh/year. The administration is to realize a second hydroelectric power station for further 400,000kWh/year that would cover the entire energy consumption zeroing completely the use of energy from fossil fuels. Future public works involves the replacement of lamps in public lighting and the construction of a PV plant.

Mendatica, already certified UNI EN ISO 14001, with MEDEEA will develop even further the process of energy saving and implementation of renewable sources, a road map that will be implemented also through the adhesion to the CoM. The administration is proud to be able to compare with European realities far greater and to be involved in useful exchange of experience. In difficult economic times like the present one Mendatica considers MEDEEA an opportunity to increase energy savings and the visibility of its territory at European level.
