ARE Liguria

ARE Liguria is a joint-stock company that was established in 1996 within the framework of the EU PERU Programme and it is now was formally recognised by the Regional Law N. 22/2007 as a tool for the regional energy policy on sustainable development. ARE Liguria is held for 90% by FI.L.S.E. S.p.A. (Ligurian financial institution for economic development), 5% by the University of Genova and another 5% is owned by the Municipality of Genoa. Since 1997 the Agency has been a member of FEDARENE (European network of energy agencies) as well as part of the steering committee of RENAEL, the national network of energy agencies (since 1999).

The institutional aim of the Regional Energy Agency is the promotion of energy saving policies, the exploitation of renewable energy sources and the rational use of energy within Liguria. ARE Liguria works in the institutional field, supporting the regional authority and other local administrations to elaborate and implement energy plans (e.g. Covenant of Mayors SEAPs, energy balances, energy audits) and technologies, promoting the local acquisition of laws, founding a consortium to buy electricity on the free market, developing business plans for RES plants, offering training on energy matters as well as information on new fuels and technologies.

ARE has also elaborated the regional regulation for the energy certification of buildings and has developed the related regional specific software and is participating in the Concerted Action on the EPBD directive. ARE Liguria has set up a monitoring and control structure for energy and infrastructure projects for all the hospitals of Liguria. The agency is also working hard at an international level, taking part in many EU projects dealing with European energy policy priorities, such as buildings and community energy certification and emissions calculations, promotion of new contractual and management models (Energy Performance Contracts), biomass energy promotion. ARE Liguria has developed the guidelines for ESCO certification and for ESCO contracts. ARE Liguria has worked on energy education and people’s behaviour at both an EU and local level since 2002.

New IEE Magazine (March 2012) has been issued!

This bi-annual magazine brings you all the news on the IEE programme. Published by the Executive Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation (EACI), it contains information on the programme, views from the EACI and project managers on the ground. The magazine is available in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Polish and each edition is published online and available for download here
